COURSE OUTLINE:

This Training will cover the following topics per the current applicable codes in California:

  • NEW 2025 CA Codes (CBC/CFC) and NFPA-72 2025 requirements for Fire Alarm and Signaling Systems plans submittals for permits and AHJ approval.

  • Significant information and documentation to be included on permit plans such as: Applicable codes, Detailed scope of work, Equipment list including CSFM listing, general notes, supervising station information, floor plans to scale, required elevators information, etc. 

  • Required associated reference permit plans for complete Fire Alarm system design such as: Site Plans, Architectural, Electrical and Mechanical plans, Sprinkler and Fire Pump plans, ERRCS and 2-Way-ECS plans and any other Life-safety / emergency system that has interface with the Fire Alarm system

  • Fire Alarm sequence of operation matrix including all required Inputs and Outputs to and from the Fire Alarm system including sprinkler/elevator/fire pump/ERRCS and other associated inputs 

  • Detailed Evacuation/Relocation schemes: Total or Partial evacuation and Relocation of occupants including associated pre-recorded messages for Voice-Based systems 

  • Initiating devices and notification appliances placements based on applicable codes  

  • Smoke control interface with the FA system as applicable

  • Fire Alarm system calculations based on Tone-Based and Voice-Based systems - Battery Capacity calculations, Voltage Drop calculations, Speaker and amplifier power calculations

  • Pathways and wire designations such as Initiating Devices Circuit (IDC), Signaling Line Circuit (SLC), Notification Appliance Circuit (NAC) Class A and Class B pathways and Class D – Fail Safe circuits.

  • System components wiring diagrams and details to be included on Fire Alarm plans such as control unit and initiating devices and notification appliances point-to-point diagrams elevations and locations

GENERAL INFORMATION: 

  • Five and one-quarter (5.25) Continuing Education Hours (CEH) will be awarded to students on completion of training.  The CEHs can be converted to Continuing Education Units (CEUs) by the WBFAA.
  • Class size is limited in both locations.  We will implement a wait-list process and encourage you to add yourself to the waitlist as that will be a gauge to us that the class should be re-offered.
  • Our goal for in-person training is to be able to offer at least one in-person training session, in each region, in each calendar quarter. 
  • FPE and CAFAA will be developing new course material to meet the ever-changing needs of our membership, for a fresh, high-quality, California-centric curriculum.
  • Sagiv Weiss-Ishai, P.E. (Calif. Licensed Fire Protection Engineer) is the principal trainer for FPE and will be the instructor for the two sessions in August.

WHO CAN BENEFIT BY ATTENDING THE CLASS:

  • Fire Alarm and Signaling systems personnel (e.g. Designers, Installers, Technicians, Service personnel, Vendors, Engineers)
  • Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) and Code Officials (e.g. Fire, Building, Electrical, Code Enforcers and Plan Reviewers)
  • Electrical and Fire Protection Engineers
  • Fire Inspectors: Plan-check and field inspectors

Each student will receive a HARD copy booklet (2-slide per page format, double-sided) at the training site.

8:00am - 9:45am Training and Q&A

9:45am - 10:00am Break

10:00am - 12:00pm Training and Q&A

12:00pm - 12:30pm Lunch

12:30pm - 1:45pm Training and Q&A

1:45pm - 2:00pm open Q&A session on any class related topic

ENROLLMENT FEES

$199 for California FPOs/AHJs

$299 for employees of a CAFAA member company

$399 for non-CAFAA member attendees

CLASS SIZED IS LIMITED TO 50 STUDENTS - we will go to a Wait List process if/when the maximum is reached.  If the wait list is implemented, we encourage you to add yourself if interested as we will use the list as a gauge to whether the class should be re-offered.

*Note for CEU's: There is no cost for conversion of CEU's to a WBFAA member. Fees may apply to non-members.
